Directing: in a ‘Man’s’ Position
by Jess Lake (15)
Standing under lights
All I can feel is a deadly fright
Knowing they don’t believe in me
Knowing they will never see
What I can really do
Maybe put across something new
But they silence me with every case
Because they know I’m standing in a ‘man’s’ place.
Trying to get my points across
And they just sit there. Not giving a toss.
All I get are blank faces
They think of me to just tie their laces
All I am is simply invisible
But I know what they’re saying is inexcusable
But I let them walk all over me
Because all I want to do is plea
But they silence me with every case
Because they know I’m standing in a ‘man’s’ place.
But no more i say
Because I won’t let them stray
The supposed supporters even girls, some boys
Sit there playing with their toys
While I work twice as hard And only get half as far
The directors world dominated by men
I get patronised with them telling me aww ten out of ten
They won’t silence me in any case
Because will not stand in a ‘man’s’ place.
